Finding a gift for a family member can be easy at times, and hard at other times. It is generally easier than finding a gift for your teacher because you know them better. However, with a little bit of thought about what the teacher could use and what their interests are, finding a gift for your teacher becomes easier.
If you find it hard to think of anything useful that you know the teacher would like, take a look around the classroom. Many teachers buy things for their classroom from their own pockets, so by getting them something you know they need and use regularly, you can save them money and let them know you are paying attention to them in class.
If a look around the classroom and thinking of what is used every day doesn’t spark any ideas, it’s time to look at a personalized teacher gift.
I once gave a very touching gift to a favorite teacher; my senior year, High School English teacher. During the year, one of the assignments was to write a poem emulating an author we were studying at the time. I went overboard a bit and ended up writing several poems all based around the characters in my favorite book. She thought it was wonderful and said I should share it. For an end of year gift, I gave her a copy of the poems bound as a short book, along with a personal note from me. She was quite touched at the gift.
If you don’t have any ideas for a gift from you, perhaps a class gift would work better. Whether something higher cost that everyone pools together to buy, or a handmade gift that all the students work on, this can be a very nice gift. For instance, one year my mother taught a computer class. At the end of the year, the students got together and signed a blackboard and presented it to her. She still displays it in the kitchen – over 25 years later.
So, when looking for teacher appreciation week gifts, the best idea is to find something you can personalize.
